Light: Installations by Bruce Munro at Longwood Gardens

Administrator

Tue, Jun 19, 2012 - Sat Sep 29, 2012, 9a.m. - 6or11p.m.

Tickets: free with admission

Light: Installations by Bruce Munro at Longwood Gardens marks Munro’s first garden installation in the United States. Known for his imaginative illuminated sculptures, Munro’s works will showcase never-before-seen views of Longwood at night.

The beautiful exhibition features seven large-scale outdoor installations, two additional installations within Longwood’s grand four-acre Conservatory and a collection of illuminated sculptures in the Music Room.

After the sun sets, visitors have the opportunity to venture through the Forest of Light made up of 20,000 glowing lights resembling a field of blooming flowers or meander through Longwood’s Meadow where 69 symmetric Water Towers create a glowing maze of light that changes hues to music.

Munro designed the exhibition to highlight and enhance the natural beauty of Longwood Gardens while being sensitive to the environment.

About Bruce Munro

Bruce Munro is best known for his large-scale art installations, including the CD Sea at Long Knoll and Field of Light at The Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. His Light Shower and Water Towers installations at Salisbury Cathedral drew international praise in early 2011, prompting an invitation to exhibit at the Biennale Kijkduin in The Hague.

Light is Munro’s first opportunity to create installation art works in the United States. In 2012 he is scheduled to participate in a show on contemporary glass design at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery.
