WILDFLOWER, NATIVE PLANT AND SEED SALE
SATURDAY, MAY 9 & SUNDAY, MAY 10

(CHADDS FORD, PA) April 24, 2009--Gardeners can choose from a superb selection of low-maintenance, beautiful native plants at the Brandywine Conservancy's 28th annual Wildflower, Native Plant and Seed Sale, May 10 and 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This popular event offers a wide variety of regional plants and seeds that are suitable for sun or shade and all types of landscapes.
Native plants are a great way to "go green" because they are adapted to the local growing conditions and require less water and intensive care in the garden. Many varieties will attract songbirds, hummingbirds and butterflies and are as useful for strengthening our local ecosystem as they are low-maintenance additions to the garden. Wildflower seeds which have been collected from the Conservancy's gardens and meadows and cleaned and packaged by garden volunteers will be sold.
Among the plants available at the sale are Wild Pink, Blue Star, Spiderwort, Goatsbeard and Green and Gold.  Other native plants available at the sale include the spring-blooming Trout Lily, Blue Falso Indigo and Dutchman's Breeches; summer-blooming Turk's Cap Lily, Tall Meadow Rue and Wild Bergamot; autumn-blooming Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod, Mountain Mint and a wide array of colorful Asters. Ornamental grasses include Wild Oats, Prairie Dropseed and Bottlebrush Grass, along with a terrific selection of ferns, vines, trees and shrubs.
Landscaping with Native Plants by Elizabeth N. du Pont, an indispensable book for gardeners, with valuable information on implementing and maintaining natural landscape design as well as plant propagation, invasive species management and more, will be available for $19.95.
Conservancy staff members and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and give advice. Admission to the sale is free. All proceeds benefit the Conservancy's diverse and beautiful Wildflower and Native Plant Gardens that surround the Brandywine River Museum.

For more information about the sale or becoming a garden volunteer at the Brandywine Conservancy, contact Mark Gormel at 610-388-8327.

The Brandywine River Museum is located on U.S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. The museum is open daily, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and students, and free for children under six and members. Group rates are available with advance reservations. For more information, call 610-388-2700 or visit www.brandywinemuseum.org
